When we look at nature, we are not just seeing a landscape. We are looking at a massive set of data. The way a coral reef branches out, the growth of a frost crystal, or the winding path of a riverbed does not happen by accident. These are fractal structures that repeat themselves in an infinite loop. The foundation of my design philosophy is built on this specific, natural mathematics.
The Sculptural Language of Organic Forms
In my design process, I choose to mimic biological logic rather than sticking to a traditional sketchbook. Turning the sculptural aesthetic of nature into organic forms on jewelry is a process of generative dreams. Here, forms are not drawn in the conventional sense. They are grown in a digital environment using mathematical rules, much like a cell dividing or a crystal forming.
The structures that emerge from this process possess a complexity far beyond human imagination. These forms are filled with deep valleys, sharp ridges, and porous architectures. They speak the native language of the earth itself.
From Mathematics to Brutalist Reality
The transition of these digital dreams into physical reality is a harsh and labor intensive process. These complex fractal geometries are transferred into 925 sterling silver using high precision casting techniques right here in Haarlem. However, the stage after the casting is where the true soul of the work is revealed.
Every indentation and projection on these pieces is processed through hours of manual labor. I adopt a Brutalist approach to emphasize the raw and sometimes unforgiving aesthetic of nature. While hand polishing the parts of the silver that should catch the light, I create deep shadows with controlled oxidation in the recesses. This method makes the piece look less like a newly made accessory and more like an artifact that has been buried for thousands of years. It looks like an industrial remnant salvaged from a future ruin.
Why Organic Aesthetics?
Because flawless shine is a mask. The mathematics of nature is real and honest. A piece of jewelry should not just be a decorative object that accompanies an outfit. It should be a wearable sculpture. It is a piece of the invisible, complex code of the earth that you carry on your skin.
In our studio, every piece is a combination of mathematical truth and hours of manual sweat. Instead of the fake perfection of mass production, we choose the chaotic but meaningful forms of the natural world.
